Dorper sheep originated in South Africa. They are a mutton breed developed in the 1930's by crossing Dorset Horn and Blackheaded Persian sheep. The breed was developed to survive the arid regions of South Africa. The Dorper is a fertile breed that is hornless with good body length and a short light covering of hair and wool. Dorpers come in both the Dorper (black face dorper) and White Dorper (solid white) variety.
The Dorper breed has spread to many countries throughout the world.
The Dorper requires a minimum of care and the best thing about them is that most naturally shed their wool/hair each year and do not require shearing.

Our first crop of Dorper lambs are on the ground. We are still expecting a few in January and February.
